Mount Pleasant Recreation Survey & Project Updates
This Friday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m., we’ll cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Park West Pool—a win for families, swimmers, and residents across Mount Pleasant. It’s a proud moment. A real, visible result. And it proves what we can do when we prioritize action over delay.
But as we celebrate this progress, one big question remains:
What’s happening with the other Mount Pleasant recreation projects voters were promised?
Mugsy Kerr Tennis Courts: Where’s the Progress?
In 2022, Mount Pleasant voters approved a $50 million recreation referendum. That vote guaranteed funding for multiple public projects—including the expansion of the Mugsy Kerr Tennis Complex, one of our town’s most-used tennis facilities.
It’s now 2025. No construction. No groundbreaking. No expanded courts.
The funding is there. The demand is clear. But the timeline? Still unclear.
Rifle Range Road Park: Still Waiting for Permits
The land for Rifle Range Road Park was purchased in 2011. It was envisioned as a major town park with walking trails, fields, preserved green space, and a community recreation center.
In 2022, we voted again—to fund this project and finally bring it to life.
Design work is now complete. But as of today, we’re still waiting on permits before construction can begin. That means we still don’t have a start date, much less a finished park.
Let me be clear: I was not on Town Council in 2011, or in 2019, or during the years when this project stalled. But I am now. And I believe it’s time to deliver on the promises made to this community—without excuses.
Government Can Be Slow. But It Doesn’t Have to Be.
I understand that planning and permitting take time. But it’s been two years since this referendum passed—and families are already paying higher taxes to fund these projects.
When that kind of public investment is made, residents deserve more than delays. They deserve results.
What I’m Doing—and What I Need From You
I’ve called for timelines, asked for accountability, and pushed to prioritize action over planning paralysis. But I can’t do this alone.
That’s why I’m launching this short survey—to hear directly from you.
What are your priorities?
What matters most in our next parks?
What would you like to see improved or expanded?
Whether you supported the referendum or not, you’re part of this. Your feedback will shape how we move forward—because your voice should drive our priorities.
