MOUNT PLEASANT, TOWN COUNCIL
WELCOME TO VOTE IACOFANO
John and his wife Krissy have been residents of Mount Pleasant for over two decades raising their three children in Mount Pleasant public schools.
– SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS OWNER –
A graduate of Johnson & Wales University with honors and a small business owner of 20 years, John has taken a one Chef restaurant into a national catering brand. John understands the hardships of growth and the need to ensure that employees and infrastructure are sound. John knows firsthand the impact of small business on a community, the revenue they create and the time it takes to run one successfully. Small business is the focal point of a thriving community by employing our citizens and giving back to our schools and charitable causes.
– PLAN FOR THE FUTURE –
John wants to preserve the character of the town for our children, the next generation and the community. To do this, we must first take care of our small business community, town employees and area residents.
As a business owner for over 2 decades expanding from a one chef kitchen to 6 kitchens across the US with over 85 employees, I know how to get things done and I know how to work, listen, and to come up with solutions as a team.
As a resident of Mount Pleasant for over 2 decades, a parent, a volunteer, and a coach for my 3 children that are in Mount Pleasant public schools the future of Mount Pleasant is important to me.
– I’M RUNNING FOR MOUNT PLEASANT TOWN COUNCIL –
- for the future of our children, the expansion of our parks, recreation, community/senior centers, and pedestrian thoroughfares. To ensure the completion of the projects and to listen to the needs of the community. We should be able to bike and walk freely through our town. Increasing pedestrian traffic will assist in decreasing auto traffic. Many of our sidewalks are dangerous to traverse and many busy roads are missing sidewalks altogether.
Develop a Cultural Arts Masterplan built in collaboration, not isolation, with local artist and community groups both within Mount Pleasant and outside Mount Pleasant. Culture and Arts starts with our youngest generation, our children, all children do not learn the same and have different interests from music, sports, arts and beyond. We must provide opportunities for all our children to learn and flourish. - for the future of our first responders so that they are compensated not only competitively with the public sector but also the private sector. We want to maintain a consistent well-trained team and over the last 4 years approximately 50% of our firefighters have left our town. Firefighters and police officers are our first responders but so are many of our town employees and they must be recognized and compensated. I can’t put a price tag on running into a burning building or saving a life but I know it doesn’t start at $11.70 per hour.
- for the future of small business by sustaining, increasing, and promoting small businesses. It’s time to let the business community know that Mount Pleasant is open for businesses. We must recruit professional jobs and we must do everything we can to assist them in opening. Our current impact fee structure and constant waffling back and forth on zoning is a deterrent to professional businesses opening in Mount Pleasant. Establish zones in Mount Pleasant that are specific to the needs and look of the community. Short- and long-term jobs, taxes and revenue that is created by being a business-friendly community outweighs the large impact fees that deter or put businesses out of business before they open. More workplaces in Mount Pleasant means less citizens leaving town and will help decrease traffic.
Create a think tank of residents that are active in local, national, and international business to assist us in recruiting and retaining professional businesses to Mount Pleasant. We need to let the business community know that we are open for business. - to provide the opportunity for our teachers, first responders and town employees to live in the community they serve. Workforce housing as part of development plans must be part of our short- and long-term focus. Proper compensation packages conducted utilizing public and private compensations to reduce turnover and provide proper compensation will allow them to be citizens in the town they serve creating a truer sense of community.
- to ensure a high quality of life for future generations of Mount Pleasant. Create a Live, Work, Play community.
