Pay What You Can Day at Patriots Point: History for Everyone

One of the things that makes Mount Pleasant special is our commitment to making history, education, and community experiences accessible to everyone.

On Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will host its Pay What You Can Day, opening the doors wider for families, residents, and visitors to experience one of our region’s most important historic landmarks.

What Is Pay What You Can Day?

On this day, guests can choose their own admission price, making it easier for individuals and families to explore Patriots Point regardless of budget. It’s a powerful example of how cultural institutions can balance preservation with accessibility.

What You Can Explore

Visitors will have access to:

  • USS Yorktown (CV-10) – the iconic WWII aircraft carrier
  • USS Laffey (DD-724) – one of the most decorated destroyers in U.S. Navy history
  • Vietnam Experience Exhibit – a moving, immersive look at the realities of the Vietnam War

In addition:

  • Children under six are admitted free
  • Active-duty military members in uniform are admitted free

Why This Matters

Events like Pay What You Can Day reinforce something I strongly believe in: history should be shared, not gated. Patriots Point is not just a tourist destination—it’s a living classroom, a memorial, and a place where generations can connect with the sacrifices that shaped our country.

By offering flexible admission, Patriots Point ensures that students, families, veterans, and lifelong learners all have the opportunity to engage with our shared story.

Plan Your Visit

If you’ve never been—or if it’s been a while—this is a perfect opportunity to spend a meaningful day learning, reflecting, and exploring right here in Mount Pleasant.

I encourage residents to take advantage of this event and support Patriots Point however you’re able. When we invest in access to history, we invest in a stronger, more informed community.
