Listening First: Your Voice on Public Safety in Mount Pleasant

Note: This is a stock photo used solely for illustration. This post and survey are not affiliated with the Town of Mount Pleasant or its Police Department.

Public safety is one of the most important responsibilities of any local government—and it’s something we often talk about at Town Hall. But just as important as the data, the policy, and the procedures is something simple: what our residents are feeling.

As a Councilmember and longtime Mount Pleasant resident, I’ve always believed in listening first—and acting second. That’s why I’ve launched a short, informal community survey focused on public safety and your experience with the Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD).

This is not a Town-sponsored initiative. It’s not affiliated with the Police Department. It’s just me, reaching out as your neighbor and representative, asking a few respectful, meaningful questions about:

  • Police visibility and presence in your neighborhood
  • Your perceptions of responsiveness and professionalism
  • Suggestions for where more focus may be helpful
  • What you value about MPPD and what you’d improve

📩 We ask for your email address to prevent duplicate entries and preserve the integrity of the survey—but your email will never be shared or used without permission.

🔒 Results will be summarized and shared publicly, and I’ll also pass them along to anyone on Council or in Town leadership who’s interested. No personal data will be included.

I believe our Police Department does a tremendous amount of good in this community—and like all parts of government, it thrives when we keep communication open and invite input from the people we serve.

Thank you for taking a moment to share your perspective. Your voice matters—and I’m listening.

With respect and gratitude,
John Iacofano

  1. 1. Improve ingress and egress on Ben Sawyer Blvd, eliminate suicide lane and make BSB the gateway to Mt P it is supposed to be. Medians, signage and/or pavement markings would be an improvement.
    2. GPS speeds in vehicle navigation systems don’t reflect posted speeds. BSB, Coleman and inbound off Ravenel.Bridge don’t match.
    3. Continue medians on Coleman from Live Oak Drive to the Ravenel on ramp.
    4. Enforce golf cart laws, and now e-bike laws, hold violators accountable and improve public safety at the same time.
    5. Increase transparency on development activity, have you looked at the TOMPSC project map online lately? Woefully lacking.
    6. Meet the Mayor sessions and coffee with Eric D are great ways to build rapport and trust. In a way you’re doing this virtually already, keep it up.
    7. I miss the deli.
    Good luck,
    Charlie
