Citizen Question:
“John, I’m honestly frustrated with politics these days. Everything feels so divided — Republican versus Democrat, left versus right — and it seems like nothing gets done because of it. How do you stay focused on serving everyone in Mount Pleasant when politics has become so polarized?”
Councilman Iacofano’s Response:
That’s a great question — and one I hear often. Many residents feel exactly the same way. Politics across the country has become more about division than solutions, and that’s not what people want or deserve from their local leaders.
When I’m working to fix a sidewalk, install crossing lights on Mathis Ferry for public safety, or make sure our first responders have the support and equipment they need, I’m not asking who’s a Republican or Democrat. I’m asking one simple question: What’s the right thing to do for Mount Pleasant?
Public service isn’t about party lines — it’s about people. It’s about advocating for parks, recreation, and the arts, because quality of life matters. It’s about making government transparent and accountable, because taxpayers deserve to see exactly where their money goes. That’s why we now livestream committee meetings and have made the town’s financial checkbook available online for everyone to see.
Accountability, transparency, and community focus aren’t political ideas — they’re the foundation of good leadership. I believe Mount Pleasant deserves leaders who listen more than they lecture, who solve problems instead of scoring points, and who unite people through action.
So whether it’s improving public safety, investing in recreation, or ensuring fiscal responsibility, my focus remains the same: serving Mount Pleasant — not a party.
Because at the end of the day, politics divides, but service unites.
