🏅 A Proud Moment for Mount Pleasant
This week, I had the distinct honor of presenting the Keys to the Town of Mount Pleasant to three exceptional young men—Mac, Alessio, and Nick—for achieving one of the highest recognitions in community leadership: the rank of Eagle Scout.

In a time when positive role models and service-minded leadership are more important than ever, these three Scouts have set the bar for what it means to be young leaders with purpose.
🛡️ What the Key to the Town Means
The Key to the Town is more than a ceremonial gesture—it’s a symbol of our community’s deep appreciation for individuals who contribute selflessly and consistently to making Mount Pleasant a better place.
By awarding this key, we recognize that these Scouts have not only completed impressive service projects but have done so while balancing school, extracurriculars, and personal growth. That kind of dedication deserves celebration.
🏕️ The Eagle Scout Journey
Becoming an Eagle Scout is no small accomplishment. Only about 6% of all Scouts achieve this rank, and those who do must demonstrate:
-
- Leadership in their troop and their communities
-
- Service through the completion of a major project that benefits the public
-
- Perseverance, having completed over 20 merit badges that span skills from citizenship and emergency preparedness to environmental science and personal finance
Mac, Alessio, and Nick each brought a unique vision to their projects—projects that not only improved public spaces or supported local institutions but also inspired others around them to get involved.
Their stories are reminders of how one person’s initiative can spark meaningful change.
🌱 Investing in the Next Generation
Recognizing young leaders isn’t just about applauding their past accomplishments—it’s about encouraging their future. When we take the time to invest in youth, we strengthen our entire community. Whether it’s Scouting, school leadership, volunteering, or athletics, our town benefits when we nurture values like responsibility, empathy, and service.
As someone deeply committed to Mount Pleasant’s future, I believe our job as leaders is to lift others up—especially those who are just beginning their journey. Today’s Eagle Scouts will be tomorrow’s civic leaders, business owners, educators, and first responders.
💬 A Personal Reflection
As I handed over the symbolic keys, I couldn’t help but reflect on the example these young men are setting—not just for their peers, but for all of us. They remind us that leadership isn’t about titles or spotlight—it’s about showing up, working hard, and giving back.
These Scouts represent the very best of Mount Pleasant’s future. I am proud to have played a small part in honoring their big achievements.
🙌 Join Me in Celebrating Our Eagle Scouts
To Mac, Alessio, and Nick—thank you for being the kind of young men that give us hope, pride, and inspiration. The Town of Mount Pleasant is better because of you, and we can’t wait to see what you do next.
And to the families, mentors, and Scout leaders who walked with them every step of the way—thank you. Your support has shaped the next generation of leaders.
Let’s keep building a Mount Pleasant where leadership like this continues to grow.
