Why Wait for December? Transparency Should Come Early!

We’re asking for an early gift this year—government transparency and accountability! 🎄✨

I have officially requested two important discussions for upcoming committee meetings—your support and engagement matter!

🗳Finance Committee: Implementing a financial transparency policy requiring all municipal expenditures of $150 or more to be published online for public access. Charleston, SC has set a great example of this, and it’s time we do the same to enhance trust, oversight, and fiscal responsibility.

⚖ Police, Legal & Judicial Committee: Discussing the adoption of a three-reading ordinance process, similar to Charleston’s system, to allow for public input before final decisions are made.

💡 Why is this important? Our current two-reading system does not allow time for public response.

First reading: No amendments allowed.

Second reading: Amendments can be made, but the final vote is immediate.

With only two readings, there is no time for the public to review changes, voice concerns, or provide feedback before an ordinance becomes law. A three-reading system would provide better transparency, accountability, and public engagement.
