Mount Pleasant’s Town Council officially adopted the Five-Year Update to the town’s Comprehensive Plan on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. This update, required by state law, is not a total rewrite—but a strategic refresh that incorporates new data, community feedback, and emerging priorities to guide our town through 2030.
A Smart Evolution, Not a Rewrite
By design, the plan builds on what’s already working while integrating:
- Current demographic data
- Ongoing town programs and initiatives
- Public input gathered during the “Public Input Matters” open houses (2022–2023)
- Expanded sections on the business environment and resilience strategies
A Stronger Focus on Resilience
This update positions Mount Pleasant to meet challenges head-on. Key additions include:
- Hazard mitigation and vulnerability analysis
- Integration of the Community Forest Master Plan
- Strategies to prepare for storms, rising sea levels, economic shifts, and public health events
Town officials emphasized that the plan reflects both the character of our neighborhoods and the voices of residents and business owners.
Community Engagement Was Central
- Draft Release: June 3, 2025
- Public Meetings Held: June 9 (Wando Branch Library), June 12 (Municipal Complex), June 16 (Waterworks facility), and July 8 (Town Council Public Hearing)
Input from these sessions directly shaped the final version—a strong example of government listening to residents.
What This Means for the Future
This plan ensures Mount Pleasant is moving forward responsibly by:
- Supporting economic vitality and thoughtful growth
- Embedding resilience and hazard preparedness in policy decisions
- Protecting neighborhood character while planning for the future
As your Town Council representative, I view this plan as a framework we must champion—guiding investments, safeguarding our natural resources, and ensuring Mount Pleasant remains one of the best places to live.
